Critics. Their opinions don't count. The only opinion that truly counts is your own. That doesn't mean that we should ignore good advice or proven wisdom. We will always have that need for other people and their input.

The key factor is being able to determine who fits into that quality selection of trusted advisors. Should someone slip through, someone who breathes a subtle negativity, you'll begin to suffer from the ill effects.

We don't knowingly assign critics to such important positions of personal influence. And they don't always announce their methods of criticism to you beforehand. That's why it's subtle.

Left unchecked, you may one day find yourself lacking any number of virtues as a result of letting a critic direct your course.

The opinions of others can easily have an internalizing effect if we aren't paying attention to it. That's the power we give over to critics. Either we comply with their opinions, or we take offense and react. In both instances, they win.

It's especially dangerous because what happens is that their remarks begin to shape how you see yourself. What they see becomes what you see.

If you replace your opinion of yourself with an opinion from a critic, then that's setting yourself up for failure.

So, be on the lookout. Learn how to filter negative influences out of your thoughts, out of your life.

Build positive opinions into yourself. In doing so, you'll build the momentum of your personal integrity which will lead to one success building upon another.
